Cardiff Legal Services Commision.
The Cardiff office held a Personal Safety event for staff on Monday 12th November 2007. The day consisted of two separate 60-minute sessions, which were intended to improve knowledge in a fun and light-hearted manner.
A self-defence demonstration/discussion followed with Gareth Noble, a British Combat Association Instructor. Those who thought they were attending a quiet discussion were in for a surprise (and they didn’t get to sit down that much either!) Each demonstration was followed by a ‘practice’ session. The group had a lot of fun practising their new found moves on each other, especially with the wooden ‘knives’ that were provided for good effect. Several members of staff were brave enough to help Gareth with his demonstrations – quite a challenge when faced with an experienced ex-soldier who also dabbles in martial arts! Mark found out to his peril that he was sat too close to the front as he was nominated to ‘help’ quite a lot more than others. He did a sterling job and was quite an expert himself by the end of the session.
Both sessions were extremely enjoyable and staff are more aware of how to keep themselves safe......especially if threatened with a wooden knife!!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Gareth for an extremely enjoyable morning. Everyone who attended the session was on a real high at the end and thoroughly enjoyed his style of teaching. Staff felt comfortable to join in the activities and all said that they gained confidence by attending and actually taking part.
We would also like to wish you well, and would recommend your class to anyone, young or old. In an ever-changing society such as ours your type of class would be of benefit to many people.
Once again sincere thanks.
